AAF DC Presents 2018 American Advertising Awards

The American Advertising Federation-DC Chapter hosted the American Advertising Awards-DC Gala on Thursday, March 29 at Gypsy Sally’s in Washington, DC. Approximately 300 attendees honored this year’s competition winners.

The AAF DC received over 500 entries from 77 agencies, design firms, in-house marketing departments, freelancers, interactive firms, production companies, and PR firms. A panel of five in-person judges from across the country judged broadcast, print, collateral, and out-of-home entries. An additional four judges determined winners in digital categories. Judging resulted in a total of 45 Gold ADDY® Awards and 54 Silver ADDY® Awards.

The Best of Show Award is determined by a consensus of the judges. Best of Category awards are given to the entries receiving the highest score in each category.

The top award honored at the Gala, Best of Show, went to Design Army for the entirety of their work for Georgetown Optician, including a photography campaign and internet commercial campaign titled, “The Eye Ball.”

The Best of Category – Collateral was given to Design Army for “The (very) Political Collection” chocolate bar package design.

Best of Category – Out-of-Home went to Havit Advertising for the “POTUS1” poster campaign for Mount Vernon.

The Best of Category – Broadcast was presented to RP3 Agency for “Facing History and Ourselves,” a branded content and entertainment campaign.

The Best of Category – Public Service was awarded to International Justice Mission for the online film, video, and sound submission, “The Deep Place.”

A Special Judges Award was presented to GRAPHEK for the “Food 4 Thought” set of four notebooks.

Design Army took home the most awards: 16 Gold ADDY® Awards, 3 Silver ADDY® Awards, and a Best of Show. Other top winners include Havit Advertising with 13 ADDY® Awards (6 Gold ADDY® Awards, 7 Silver ADDY® Awards) and Akseizer Design Group with 12 ADDY® Awards (5 Gold ADDY® Awards, 7 Silver ADDY® Awards).

The American Advertising Awards Competition is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), its chapters, and districts. With 40,000 entries nationwide, the ADDY® Awards Competition is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition for creative excellence. Winners from the AAF DC ADDY® Awards will go on to compete against other winning entries from District Two, which includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, DC.
